This series was completed in December 2015 as part of my Expressive class portfolio.
My mother and I were very close. She exemplified what it meant to be a truly authentic, beautiful, giving person. She passed away in 2005 when I was 24 years old.
I got married in 2012, without her. All of the wedding planning, sharing, and excitement, I experienced without her by my side. I wore her wedding dress on my own wedding day.
Weddings are a happy time, but there was this aching sadness that never left my side the day I got married. These images are my attempt to show the grief and loss I tried to hide on my wedding day.
This series was completed for an Expressive class assignment intending to ask questions.
I used to work with older adults, people living with chronic illness and disabilities. These images explore my own questions about life, as we grow and change into our older years, and how we can be defined by our disabilities, rather than who we are as individuals.
